Follow me on my journey to do 30 things on my bucket list before I turn 30 next year! Let's see if I can do it!

At the beginning of the 2021 New Year I knew creating the same old same old resolution was out of the question. However when I looked at creating a long term list of things I want to do before turning 30 I knew I was in for a treat! This is my thirty before 30 bucket list!

I once heard an old high school classmate say “I find everything boring now in my 20s because I did everything in my teens”

The big 3-0 is on the way soon (exactly 20 months from now) and I want to make sure I end my twenties with a bang! I once heard an old high school classmate say “I find everything boring now in my 20s because I did everything in my teens”. Welp what can I say I never had that luxury of staying out late, going to parties and all the other crazy wild things you may see teenagers do. I never had those experiences nor did I particularly want them to be honest. I mean I had my own rubbish to deal with growing up in a single-parent household with my great-grandma. I was too busy worrying about when I came home if the city turned our water off or our lights off or both. Granted I did go to a predominately upper-middle class high school in Boca Raton so it’s no surprise that our lifestyles were fairly different.

It wasn’t until I attended college at Florida Atlantic University that I really got to the grove of things. My twenties were exactly as they needed to be and how I wanted them to be in my own Dorothy type of way. I had my first drink at 23, had my first club going experience at 24 and other wholesome firsts throughout the decade. I lived a little, socialized A LOT and that was enough for me. But I find myself here creating a bucket list of things to do before turning 30 and wonder can I actually achieve these things before 30.

Where To Begin Your Bucket List...

So how does one go about creating a bucket list and maintaining its thrill long term. I ask myself these 4 questions/statements below before writing out the list to make sure I was planning it with attainable goals in mind. You can also follow along with me..

Ask Yourself These Questions

1. Is this what I really want to do?

Take your time creating this list because you want to be intentional about what you intend on doing. I never want to write something down just because it's convenient because that doesn’t do anything but hinder my experience on this journey. Truly ask yourself “do I really want to do this?”. If the answer is no, keep searching until you find your yes!

2. Am I motivated by this?

Do I find myself dreading trying to complete this list or does it cause me to put a pep to my step. This is the most important question in my opinion because if it doesn’t inspire me then I won’t want to do it and keep pushing it back. Just like most of us, my ugly friend Mr. Procrastination is always willing to support my plans unfortunately. However, this time around let’s leave him out so we can actually have fun while fulfilling this bucket list.

3. Be willing to be uncomfortable

Let’s normalize allowing fear in the passenger seat of our car. We are the drivers of this journey and fear can only affect us if we allow it to take the wheel. I used to be fueled by my anxiety before therapy but then learned it's not the fear itself, it's how we respond to it. Learn to understand that it's okay to be afraid. In fact it's good for survival purposes but if there’s no danger in it then what prevents you to just go for it! Be free and live in your discomfort

4. Stay optimistic even during Covid19

With the pandemic still hanging over our heads you have to factor in some restrictions that may arise. Not everyone is still willing to travel for a check mark on a bucket list and some are choosing to stay home like myself. That is all good for those who do and those who don’t. Nevertheless don’t be discouraged!! I repeat DON’T BE DISCOURAGED! There are tons of free and budget friendly fun experiences to tryout. You just have to get creative during a time like Covid. Involve others in your plans and go off! Plus if you're a broke college student like me one word for you... tuition; save your money honey.

These are just a few ways to help you on creating your own bucket list as I created mine. This thirty before 30 is more than just a list to me, it is the complete adventure guide to a life I always wanted to explore.
